The story is from May 2. This is as much a reflection of the users as it is of #Meta's modus operandi.

"The longer a Twitter veteran spends on Threads, the more they notice what might be described as big Meta energy β€” and that's not a good thing." #Threads

"Too many Threads users are coming direct from Instagram and unwittingly relying on the Meta algorithm's pick of the Threads it wants them to read β€” regardless of whether they actually follow the accounts posting them" https://mashable.com/article/meta-threads-beat-twitter-x @Mashable @BeAware

yep. I see that issue. I keep whining there about lack of discovery and of course, they get ignored...πŸ˜”
in reply to BeAware :veriweed:

It's not that. The article addresses the weird accounts and nonsense pushed by the "For You" algorithm.
in reply to AAKL

well yeah, that's what I mean. I am unseen because these dumb accounts are engagement baiting and talking AT people instead of TO people and that's because the algorithm favors that type of stuff. I am unseen, in favor of these weird, dumb accounts because of the "for you" feed.πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ
in reply to BeAware :veriweed:

Yes, well, that to me raises a red flag about the future discretion of that platform as it slowly but surely takes over the fediverse mantle. Just saying.
in reply to AAKL

no algorithm here...πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Not gonna happen unless people start boosting the dumb shit. In which I'll simply mute.πŸ‘

in reply to AAKL

I’m not on Threads, but on other Meta products it’s become an adventure to find something not massively algorithmed. Many of their users coming over from other products and probably X to an extant may not realize it and just be like oh cool an active feed.
in reply to Patrick

@ppb1701 That's true, but part of the blame as mentioned earlier falls on the users.
in reply to AAKL

Call me crazy but the algorithm is supposed to give you things you’re interested in, right? By that thought, wouldn’t you β€œtrain” it the same way we β€œtrain” the Netflix/Max/Hulu β€œfor you” algorithm?
in reply to AAKL

Right I mean my IG algorithm is on point, to the point where people were getting called out for seeing skimpy women and the β€œfor you” was filled with cheeked-up women :blobjoy:
in reply to AAKL

NOW WERE TALKING. This makes a hell of a lot of sense. If Meta’s AI is involved I’m sure there are massive gaps since that LLM is definitely in its infancy.
in reply to AAKL

@WorMP3 well, it sucks at doing that because I'm mostly talking about Fediverse and get nothing of the sort. So it's broken I guess.
in reply to @πš†πš˜πš›π™Όπ™ΏπŸΉ:~$ :t_blink:

To expand a little, if I were a new #Threads I wouldn’t even think about looking at the β€œfor you” for the first 1 month of constant use. I do the same with streaming services, why? The algorithm doesn’t β€œknow me” so its suggestions are trash. The fact that people act like this is new boggles my mind, it’s like they’ve never used any other service with an algorithm. :blobshrug:
in reply to @πš†πš˜πš›π™Όπ™ΏπŸΉ:~$ :t_blink:

@WorMP3 PS. Just because an article claims something it doesn't mean it's true.πŸ‘

I experience the platform through using it, not the article.πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈπŸ˜¬

in reply to BeAware :veriweed:

I’m talking from my experience with Meta algorithm as far as IG is concerned, and that’s where my Meta algorithm knowledge stops.

BeAware :veriweed: reshared this.

in reply to AAKL

@WorMP3 nah I search stuff on YouTube and get recommended similar stuff. No such thing happens on threads for me. "So, elephants have tusks, what do you think about this 15 million old revelation, Threads?!?!"πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ
in reply to AAKL

And that’s where the problem starts, Meta should have just Crtl C + Crtl V on this. Instead of reinventing the wheel. This smells of suits involvement, yet again.
in reply to AAKL

@WorMP3 I'm not inviting meta, I'm inviting the users so they don't have to do that type of shit anymore. I'm sure not all 160 million people are employed by threads and have anything to do with their algorithm. It's not their fault theyre being manipulated...😬
in reply to BeAware :veriweed:

Right I don’t want the corporation here, but I do want to be able to talk to the users if that makes sense.

Instead of a wall, can we build a chain-link fence so I can talk to my neighbor?
