There are so many accounts by the #news media on #Threads, that could but do not yet federate. Doesn't make much sense to ask here for them to do that, so I posted something over there.

If you have an account and want more of the media federating, feel free to share the post:
https://www.threads.net/@fingolas/post/C6W2vcxIHgA

I'm collecting the ones I find here:

#FediverseThreads #Mastodon #News #Newstodon

Now that #Threads accounts can be followed on #Mastodon via the #Fediverserse protocol & vice versa, we find that Threads posts seen on Mastodon looks like Mastodon posts & on Threads, Mastodon posts look like Threads posts. #interoperability prioritizes content over platform.

This flips the current paradigm, where each micro-blogging platform distinguishes itself from its competitors with specific policies & features. Interoperability could commodify platforms, so all they offer is presence.

Not gonna lie, as monopolistic as Meta is, it would be nice to finally see Threads posts, the Fediverse (particularly Mastodon) is still very void of younger people, based on the many age range polls that I've seen pop up every now and then.

Co-founder of Twitter joins new Mastodon board of directors. Right, so federating with Threads wasn’t a mistake. This is just the direction Mastodon is going. Oh, well. Another Mozilla emerges.

Personally excited that #Threads has enabled support for the #ActivityPub protocol. I may not want to join Threads but I like having the ability to follow interesting Threads accounts in #Mastodon! So far tho, it seems that comparatively few Threads users have turned on #Fediverse sharing in their settings. Hopefully that will change. Would be one way to get access in Masto to mainstream media accounts - few of which are creating Masto accounts.

I wish the #Mastodon UI showed me who people followed from #Threads - I want to follow them, but if I click through to Threads I can't log into my home server.

Please, please block and defederate #Threads ! 🙏 Meta is not to be trusted in any circumstances.

Do #threads users see anything when we follow them here? I know they see likes, right?

According to a 3rd party quoted in Business Insider, #Threads is now surpassing #Twitter/#X in a key metric.

In April so far, "Threads has averaged an estimated 28 million daily active users, ....a roughly 55% increase in DAUs from December"

"X has averaged 22 million DAUs, a usage rate that's 21% lower than Threads."

Some people get replies and just do not engage at all....

Like, what is the point of posting to social media if you're not even gonna be SOCIAL?!?🤦‍♂️

Especially Fedi, cause it's not like we have some dumb ad service that pays you for views...You ain't making money here unless you're posting off-platform links to buy stuff.

I just don't get it. It's social media. Not "shout to the void and ignore everyone" media.🙄

Threads is the largest player so far to adopt #ActivityPub, and as @mike says, “The implications are huge.”

Why is Threads doing this? How is the team working with the community? How are they thinking about moderation, monetization and privacy in these early days and going forward?
In the newest episode of @dot_social, Mike digs in with @rklambo, Director of Product Management, and @pcottle, Software Engineer. Check it out in the fediverse on PeerTube or wherever you like to listen to podcasts. More details here:

Hey look you all, Pro threads people are replying to posts like this one and realizing that Meta actually doesn't like this #Fediverse thing and never has liked the Fediverse. https://isfeeling.social/@matt/112314729518226472 #Threads

Well, I have deleted the Threads app. They don't seem interested in integrating in good faith, unfortunately. Therefore I don't see any point in advocating for them further.

Federate with them if you wish, but my first hand experience with their dev team has been completely in bad faith on their part...🤦‍♂️

And here it is, the dark pattern at work....this threads integration is starting to go badly already....🤦‍♂️🙄

edit: and here's a threads engineer purposefully misconstruing the definition of dark patterns in a reply to me. https://social.beaware.live/@beaware.live@threads.net/112312317899201996 🤬

Pls consider boosting this post. Trying to find a few more people who are interested in AI and #ML

I am also on #threads---I still skim X because I follow so many interesting people there who have not yet moved on.

We've got new Dot Social podcast episodes coming with fediverse leaders, starting with @mike's conversation with Meta's @rklambo and @pcottle, two key people building #Threads. That one releases on Monday, followed by episodes with @snarfed.org and @molly0xfff. Be sure to subscribe wherever you get your podcasts. Here's more info:

Wow, Taylor Swift joined Threads and has 9M+ followers already!

Her account has not enabled fediverse sharing yet, but if/when they do, I'm eager to see how the fediverse handles it.

There's little doubt to my mind that Meta wants #Threads to function as a service for delivering audiences to professional "content creators," though I think the model will ultimately be more toward the OnlyFans end of the scale than TikTok. And if part of their vision is to use machine learning to provide parasocial-relationships-as-a-service, then federation is going to be Mastodon's bridge into a very dark and warped corner of the internet: https://www.platformer.news/llama-3-meta-release-synthetic-social-network/

So none of you thinks the Threads / Activity Pub thing will have an impact?

My personal opinion is that its a strategic move to avoid regulation by being able to claim they are open.

#threads #activitypub

I know you can’t read this yet on #threads but federating a existing service is not that complicated.

The #activitypub specification allows you to implement things in an incremental way.

I worked in federation of our #flipboard network.

Federating #ghost can’t be that complicated.

#Mastodon biggest supporter is at it again. https://www.macrumors.com/2024/04/15/x-small-fee-new-users/

If this happens people will jump to #Threads as well
#Fediverse #X #Twitter

I started a 4th self-updating table, this time of #Media accounts on #Threads that have activated federation (aka "that can be followed from #Mastodon). Is this useful, do we need that? I fear that this will grow quickly and I will definitely need help finding all acounts. But if there's interest, I can try.

Here it is (the Dashboard is not yet very useful, I know):

I'm seeing the same thing! Pretty cool!

I can follow and like my THREADS account from Mastodon, but I can't figure out how to follow my Mastodon account on the Threads side. Have you been able to get it to work?

@david

"I can follow and like my THREADS account from Mastodon, but I can't figure out how to follow my Mastodon account on the Threads side"

That's because you seeing your #Threads account on Mastodon is an illusion, a mirage

Open up your Threads account using a real web browser on a laptop or desktop so you can see what's happening

Look at the address bar

The URL will look as though your Threads account is homed on Mastodon, thus:

sfba.social / @zuck

https://sfba.social/@zuck@threads.net

See the top three pinned posts on my profile for more examples

But right now Threads is behind a one-way mirror from Mastodon / the Fediverse

"Threads on Mastodon and The Bright Future of the Fediverse"

This is a terrific, non-jargony read about what works and doesn't work on Threads and Mastodon in the fediverse.

And the great potential as federation moves forward.

Lovely work, learned a lot. 👏🏻

So, I can see, and like, and follow, my Threads account on my Mastodon instance, but I can't seem to follow my Mastodon account here from Threads. What am I missing? #Threads #Mastodon #Meta #Fediverse

Popped up on my Apple Watch:

"1 fediverse user liked your post"

First time I've seen this. Looks like the "fediverse seeing Threads posts" setting actually works.

Cool beans. 😎

This is a GREAT blog post about #Threads integration with the #fediverse with a realistic view on how to help safeguard the future of fedi.

Last month, Meta's Threads took its first step into the fediverse. @quillmatiq@mastodon.social, aka @quillmatiq@threads.net took that as his cue to experiment with how his Threads feed would look like on Mastodon. Here's what he discovered about organizing the chaos, different clients (hello @phanpy) and whether he'll cut the Threads cord when federation is complete.

@petrescatraian
If I understand Meta's announcement here, posts from outside of #Threads are not visible in Threads at all. Not yet, anyway. Currently, information can flow from Threads into the Fediverse, but not in the opposite direction.

The "our phased approach to the Fediverse" part of this indicates that Meta eventually plans to allow two-way communication between Threads and the Fediverse.

ANNOUNCEMENT: The world’s first general purpose #Akkomane server is here!

With great excitement, akkomane.social is open for registrations!

Akkomane is an alternative to #Mastodon and #Threads that provides incredible stability with a beautiful and futuristic Twitter-like front-end for the #Fediverse.

I have launched akkomane.social to demonstrate this software’s unique capabilities.

Currently, I’m capping memberships to 20 people (not bots). While membership preference is given to those who’d like to build and maintain an Akkomane server, everyone is welcome to apply! More membership slots will be available in the coming weeks.

To sign up for akkomane.social, visit here:
