One of the largest #sunspot groups of the current #solar cycle, AR4478, here as imaged today from Hoogstraten, #Belgium. It sits pretty much at the center of the solar disc at this moment. And it's really big, about 16 Earth diameters from side to side!

Telescope image of a region of the solar disc, near the center. It shows two large sunspots, dark in their center and their edges have a spaghetti-like structure. The rest of the image show the solar surface completely covered with much smaller "granules" caused by vigorous convection at the surface. The granules are typically a few thousand km across.
