Think how crazy this is. You're peacefully living your lives for tens of thousands of years, then one day someone shows up and not only steals practically everything and kills most of you, but then charges the survivors to exist.

I am completely appalled that the supreme court denied cert in the Stroble case today. It has been settled federal law that Native citizens who live and work on their reservation are exempt from state taxes.

They're not being charged to exist. They're being taxed based on income to provide for society as a whole.

Yes, taxation can be a burden, and we can talk about how to conduct taxation fairly and equitably, but that framing isn't helpful.
