The municipality of #Groningen in The Netherlands is investigating a switch from Microsoft to Linux 🇳🇱🔥

" It is unknown which Linux operating system the municipality will use. This is part of measures to become less dependent on big tech."

My talk for the @linuxfoundation Open Source Policy and Ecosystem Forum went well 🥳🥳

It was a scary one because a. Literally everyone in the room is an expert and b. It's my first time talking about the (lack of) digital sovereignty in the mobile ecosystem. The audience seemed very supportive.

Thanks everyone who provided input yesterday! 🫶 I'll turn my presentation into a blogpost and/or post the slides online soon.

⚠️ Edit: I'm happy to share that this news seems to have been disproven! Link: github.com/MinBZK/nl-wallet/is… ⚠️

There are so many initiatives within the Dutch gov to choose ethical tech, and then you find out about this..

The NL Wallet, the Dutch gov version of the identification service that's being build by all EU member states, will only be available for citizens with a Google or Apple account 🤦‍♀️
