The WNBA is in its 30th year. Meanwhile, PWHL is only in its 3rd year. Here’s how both leagues are doing:
- Attendance – PWHL: ~9,304 per game, WNBA: ~11,148 per game
- Total Attendance – PWHL: 1.11 Million, WNBA: 3.15 Million
- Number of Teams – PWHL: 8 (Expanding to 12), WNBA: 14 (Expanding to 15+)
Obviously, the WNBA walked so PWHL could run. But god damn, is the PWHL running like a sleek cheetah right now!

Let me tell you, #PWHL is embarrassing the #NHL right now!NHL refuses to expand into Canada because they deem this country to be “oversaturated”. So they’d rather push hockey into the American South while Canadians bankroll this venture by paying out the nose to see the Leafs and Canucks—who fail year after year because the NHL doesn’t understand the concept of building your base.
Then PWHL comes in.
What’s this? Five Canadian teams already? They just put one in Hamilton—a city the NHL routinely ignores? And there’s immediate excitement?
Seems the notion that #hockey cannot grow in Canada is a myth!
