There were so many gambling ads during the Super Bowl & I think the promotion of gambling is unethical.
I only watched the halftime & I saw one gambling ad—by a firm where I know a senior executive 😞—and I heard chatter about additional gambling ads.
The promulgation of rabid, vapid consumption turns my stomach. I don't laugh at the "jokes" in ads. I'm ready for a new world & I know that puts me out of step with my society. Finding peace anyway is my life work.
I want to add some more thoughts on advertising. It's not just that I want entertainment for free. As happened above I often chose to abstain from entertainment if it requires me to watch advertising. So I don't expect all entertainment to be free, but I do choose my programming based on the totality of the experience. I'm trying to curate an enjoyable life after all. & it's not just the concept of ads that offend me but their content & tone are worse than ever.
I'm staying in a home with multiple streaming services. I felt like seeing the new Muppet Show that aired (I think) on ABC & now is available for streaming on Disney+. I don't know enough about streaming to know which have ad-free tiers vs. which don't show ads & whether some programming always contains ads. I get that it's a network show but I was still disappointed when it loaded with over 2 minutes of unskippable ads. I couldn't make it to the program.
