Did a walkthrough of my little bit of forest to check for any down trees from last-night's winds. Had some larger branches down across the path, but no big trees down anywhere!

The Mycena family of mushrooms are one of my favourites. They're prolific and common, and mostly vary only in colour, but they're consistently cute, and they have a charming love of mossy surfaces.

This photo was taken 5 ½ months after the initial photo in this series. It shows the trunk of a hemlock tree with 6 plate like mushrooms growing out of the bark, some at eye level, some knee and ankle level. They are dark maroon and tan, cracked and slightly droopy, their attachment points weakened on the tree. At the base of the tree are autumn leaves and bright green moss.
Same tree and mushrooms from the first photo but now it is 9 days later and the mushrooms have flattened and doubled in size. Less blubby and more plate like. The previous golden yellow has darkened to caramel brown and the white edges have yellowed. The bottoms are still white.
Seven large, flat shelf mushrooms growing out of a standing, dead hemlock. The largest is bigger than my outstretched hand. The tops of the mushrooms and where they attach to the tree are amber brown and they lighten as they get closer to the edge with yellow being the final color. At the base of the tree is a bright green carpet of moss. In the background are green shrubs, ground cover and larger trees.

A rotting tree stump is in the woods, the ground covered with green winding plants and fallen leaves. Growing out of a panel of sheared off bark is a yellowish tan oval mushroom. It is about two inches high and is covered in brown wartlike attachments to its outer skin.

Teeny tiny mushrooms growing from tree bark

My finger points to some tiny mushrooms growing from lichen-covered bark of a maple tree. The lichens are blue gray and there's also some bright green moss. The mushroom stems grow out and then curl up, and the gills are adorable wavy. Each mushroom is a tiny fraction of the size of my fingertip.
