Trump sued the broadcaster for $10 billion last December, alleging that it had “maliciously” edited footage from his speech on January 6, 2021 to make it appear as if he had called for violence before some of his supporters stormed the Capitol. The broadcaster apologised for the content in its Panorama programme but denied defamation. A trial has been scheduled to take place in February 2027 in Miami, where the lawsuit was filed. On Tuesday, Magistrate Judge Enjoliqué Lett ruled that Trump’s businesses were relevant to the case and he must hand over records. “All of President Trump’s brand, properties and businesses are impugned or said to have been impugned,” she said, according to Politico. “Reputational, economic damages, all of that is now at issue in this case.”
