Saudi Arabia’s Energy Minister has reaffirmed the kingdom’s 'commitment' to sustaining its crude oil production capacity at 12.3 million barrels per day, according to Reuters.

He claims that the world’s top oil exporter can keep this ambitious production target steady while also hitting its climate goals.

How they plan to square that circle? Let’s just say the logic may require a level of optimism that leaves me baffled.

1. If you think #valencia is out of the woods, think again. The cut-off low that pulls humid air from over the meditteranean across the mountains north of Valencia is not done yet. In the coming 2 days the @kachelmannwetter multimodel ensemble predicts up to 177 mm of extra rain in the region of #castellon .

Not only #Spain but the entire #EU will have to have a difficult conversation on how we'll prepare us for #weather #disaster amplified by #ClimateChange

A thread.

At least it's not like the EU could have done something to prevent this...
Oh wait — haven't we known that emitting greenhouse gases causes #ClimateChange, for like, decades? 🤔

@hejsimon taking action against #climatechange now means reduced profits for the big companies and billionaires. not taking action means damage to property and goods. rebuilding property and replacing goods leads to increased profits for big companies and billionaires.

Just went and geolocated this picture for an after climate-disaster/before climate-disaster look on Google Maps. Map link below, the main highway V-30, that runs around the south side of the City of Valencia alonside the, often dry, riverbed of the Turia river. #ClimateAction #ClimateEmergency #ClimateChange #valencia #españa #valencia #cambioclimatico #climático

If you hate protesters blocking roads in the name of taking immediate #ClimateAction, you’re going to really hate how Climate Change itself blocks roads.

A picture today from Valencia, Spain where they received 500mm of rain, a year’s worth, in one day on Tuesday. >95 dead.

edit: More Pictures. Valencia is the third largest city in Spain. It affected towns just to the south (Sedavi) of it mainly as well as other areas of Southeast Spain.

Spain Flooding Kills 51!

“A year's worth of rain in 8 hours!"

At least 51 people are known to have died after torrential rain caused devastating flash floods in south-eastern Spain.

In the town of Chiva near Valencia more than a year's worth of rain fell in just eight hours and local officials say it is "impossible" to put a final figure on the number of people who have perished.

Friends in the US, vote wisely. There is a weather machine and it is fueling fires and floods.

Vote for the party that best understands this.

Colorado launches America’s first 100% electric garbage truck fleet.

In what the city is calling a national first, Louisville, Colorado officials held a “ribbon cutting” last Tuesday to celebrate the launch of a new, all-electric residential recycling and waste collection fleet, which is already the city’s streets. #ClimateChange

#ElonMusk is a moron, AND I CAN PROVE IT:

Besides the fact the South African born owner of the largest #EV car manufacturer in the world is backing a man who calls #ClimateChange "a hoax" and will roll back ALL #CarbonReduction targets currently in place…

…He claims to fear what #Harris will do to him if she wins.

Ergo, he'd be better off supporting pro-EV Harris working to ensure she wins.

But this isn't about fear of Harris' retribution. It's about POWER, RACISM & HATE.

^^^ Is a brilliant talk, tying together the issues of #climatechange #privacy, and #democracy.

@aral if you are going to be in Poland for a while, I would love to talk, or listen to another one of your talks. I live in Katowice.

I have lots of questions.

If everyone on Earth emitted planet-warming gases at the same rate as the average billionaire, the remaining carbon budget to stay within 1.5C would be gone in less than two days.

Dear Climate Change deniers:

Here's proof climate change is real-
As ski resorts in the Alps continue to permanently close due to lack of snow you will soon no longer be able to go skiing in the Alps --- and artificial snow simply melts.

"With ski resorts closing due to climate change and uncertain snow cover, Eloise Barker says you shouldn’t abandon the slopes – but instead adapt to them "

Let’s clear up some misconceptions.

Degrowth does NOT mean condemning millions of people in the Global South to starvation.

Degrowth is about social justice and climate justice. This means allowing the Global South to achieve something close to parity with a Global North that is sharply reducing consumption and energy use.

On the other hand, a continuation of endless economic growth, i.e. Business As Usual, DOES mean condemning hundreds of millions in the Global South to eco-climate disasters, drought, and starvation.

Carbon emissions are now growing faster than before the pandemic

newscientist.com/article/24531…

>Instead of a “green recovery”, global greenhouse gas emissions are rising much faster now than they did in the decade preceding the global pandemic. Emissions rose 1.3 per cent to 57.1 gigatonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent in 2023. That is a far faster annual rate of growth than during the decade 2010-2019, when emissions grew on average 0.8 per cent per year

>All sources of greenhouse gas emissions except land use are rising,

Not surprising I guess, just open the flight radar web page, or glance out the window at the endless cars , hear endless dogs barking (large meat eating pets). We haven't changed how we act, which would typically lead to changing how we vote.

Nearly everywhere there has been minor gains by Greens they are in retreat rather the massive surge needed to change policy. We concentrate on stupid shit like ecars rather then the changes needed.

It may already be too late.

No, that's wrong – it *is* already too late to prevent catastrophic damage to our planet’s climate, environment, and biodiversity. We have waited far too long.

Ecological collapse is unavoidable. In fact, it's already begun — with ocean acidification up by 30% and getting worse, with insect populations crashing, with extinctions happening many times faster than the background rate, and so on.

But that doesn't mean we should stop trying!

Because EVERY bit of natural habitat preserved is essential. EVERY species saved from extinction matters. And EVERY tenth of a degree of warming makes a big difference.

Collapse can't be prevented, I’m afraid, but the level and severity of that collapse could be lessened IF decisive action is taken immediately. But that will never happen under our current regime of capitalist domination.

We need system change, and we need it now.

What oil companies say: "We can use carbon capture and storage technology to help save the climate! All we need is billions of dollars more in government subsidies every year."

But in fact the whole thing is a scam, because "almost 80% of all the CO₂ captured by existing CCS installations has been reinjected into oil fields – to pump more oil." 🤦‍♂️
