“Police are looking for a suspect in multiple targeted shootings who is armed & dangerous,” Brooklyn Park Police said in an emergency alert sent to residents at 5:30AM “Suspect is white male, brown hair, wearing black body armor over blue shirt & blue pants & may misrepresent himself as law enforcement.”
A 2nd emergency alert sent at 7AM confirmed that the suspect is dressed like a police officer.
“Do not approach & do not answer door unless 2 officers approach together. Call 911 to verify officer identity first,” the emergency alert said.
According to KMSP-TV, the #Democratic lawmakers were shot by 2 men who were dressed like #police officers & driving a car that looked like a police car. One of the suspects was taken into custody in Brooklyn Park after an officer-involved shooting. The 2nd suspect is still at large.
Brooklyn Park & Champlin are both north of #Minneapolis.
A shelter in place order has been issued for people in a 3 mile radius of Edinburgh Golf Course in Brooklyn Park. Anyone who sees the suspect is urged to call 911 immediately. He’s armed & should not be approached.
Update: #Minnesota Gov. #TimWalz says former state #House Speaker #Democrat #MelissaHortman & her husband were #killed in a politically motivated assassination. A second lawmaker & his wife were shot & wounded.
“We must all, in Minnesota & across the country, stand against all forms of #PoliticalViolence,” Walz said at a press conference Saturday. “Those responsible for this will be held accountable.”
The #wounded lawmaker was identified as state Sen. #JohnHoffman, also a #Democrat, was first elected in 2012. He runs Hoffman Strategic Advisors, a consulting firm. He previously served as vice chair of the Anoka Hennepin School Board, which manages the largest school district in #Minnesota.
Hoffman is married & has one daughter. #MelissaHortman was the top House Democratic leader in the state #Legislature & a fmr #House speaker. She was first elected in 2004.
Both #JohnHoffman & #MelissaHortman represented districts located north of #Minneapolis, #Minnesota.
Drew Evans, superintendent of the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, said that authorities were actively searching for a suspect. Officials said the suspect was dressed as a law enforcement officer.
Autopsies will be done to determine extent of injuries, but Hortman & her spouse died from #gunshot wounds, Evans said.
#MelissaHortman & her spouse, Mark, had 2 children. She resided in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. Hortman was Catholic & taught Sunday school in Blaine.

State Patrol Col. Christina Bogojevic asked people “out of an abundance of caution” not to attend any of the #NoKings #protests that were scheduled for across the state on Saturday.
Bogojevic said authorities didn’t have any direct evidence that the protests would be targeted, but said the suspect had some “No Kings” flyers in their car. Organizers announced that all of the protests across the state were canceled.

Boelter is listed as director of security patrols for Praetorian Guard Security Services, a #Minnesota co that offers “residential security patrols,” acc/to its site.
The site shows Boelter alongside the company’s president & CEO on a leadership page.
His bio on the site says that he “has been involved with security situations in Eastern Europe, Africa, North America & the Middle East, including the West Bank, Southern Lebanon & the Gaza Strip.”
“He brings a great security aspect forged by both many on the ground experiences combined with training by both private security firms & by people in the U.S. Military,” it says.
The bio promises that Boelter has the necessary experience to “keep your family & property safe.”
Based on public records, Boelter appears to have 3 daughters, named Faith, Hope, & Grace. 2 of the daughters seem to be married, based on #Minnesota wedding sites….
Instagram pages apparently belonging to 2 of the daughters feature bible quotes in their bios.
Boelter is suspected of killing Rep. #MelissaHortman & her husband, Mark Hortman, at their home in a Minneapolis suburb. The suspect also shot state Sen. #JohnHoffman & his wife, Yvette Hoffman, at their home, but the couple is still alive. Both lawmakers were #Democrats.
The police have not announced any arrests.
The suspect left behind a “manifesto” & a list of potential next targets that included #TimWalz, acc/to ABC News.
The list, whose existence was confirmed by law enforcement earlier on Saturday, contained the names of many top #Minnesota #Democrats, including Walz, Rep. #IlhanOmar, Sen. #TinaSmith, & AG #KeithEllison, law enforcement sources told ABC.

David Carlson, 59, told Reuters that he has been sharing a house in #Minneapolis w/ #VanceBoelter for a little more than a year & last saw him Friday night. Then about 6AM on Saturday, he received a text from Boelter.
"He said that he might be dead soon," said Carlson, who called police.
