Yeah I think that's right, they dropped setuptools from some default configurations on 3.12+. Or at least that's when distutils was removed from the standard library, and I *think* removal of setuptools from places happened at the same time, but don't take my word for that part, I might be misremembering.
I wasn't able to reproduce the problem you described, though. I made a 3.12 venv and installed and tested flake8, both from PyPI and from source, and it works fine. Could you share more details? I wouldn't mind filing a bug report if you want, but I'd have to know what I'm reporting and be able to trigger it myself.
Accessing github from work is annoying.
I hope someone else in the world files a bug soon on flake8 not being compatible with a fresh python 3.12+ virtualenv, now that setuptools 82 is out and flake8 is still using the deprecated (now removed) pkg_resources.

Looking at #correlation plots, I sometimes see RΒ² ("R-squared") reported instead of the Pearson correlation coefficient r. While RΒ² = rΒ² holds in simple linear regression, reporting RΒ² alone can mislead by omitting directionality. I have summarized the key differences between r and RΒ² and tried to give a best-practice guide on when to use each:

I noticed that people sometimes report RΒ² (βR-squaredβ) instead of the Pearson correlation coefficient r when discussing the correlation between two variables.Fabrizio Musacchio

If you're interested in using Python for music, whether that's algorithmic composition, computational music theory, or musicology, you've doubtless encountered music21. It's great, but can be a bit prickly. MIT has a great Open Courseware course with music21's creator, Michael Scott Asato Cuthbert, and it's really great! (Yes, that was the third time I said 'great' and that was the fourth.)

Now I can probably mention, but I was invited by Manning Books to help on review of a Python Book.
And now it is released!
I didn't fully read it, only the chapters I reviewed, but it is a great book about design patterns.
Great and simple explanations how to use it and how to make mistakes (and fix them).
I recommend for the ones interested to improve not only python but coding skills through design patterns.
