Welsh people will tell you that the roads say "SLOW ARAF" because "araf" is Welsh for "slow". However, I have lived in Wales for over 15 years, and now I am privy to the truth:
There is a secret and elusive animal roaming Wales. "SLOW ARAF" / "ARAF SLOW" just means that there may be slow-moving araf crossing the roads.
