They also warm up faster than their surroundings. On the other hand, the ecological conditions of the surrounding area are important for how "climate-friendly" a lake is. Berlin's Flughafensee (Airport Lake) lies in the middle of a forest (Jungfernheide Forest) and is partially protected by fences as a bird sanctuary. Therefore, an almost untouched shoreline vegetation thrives there, including marshy areas and reedbeds.
