Trump's admin sued LA on Monday over policies limiting city cooperation w/federal immigration authorities, continuing a confrontation over Trump's #deportation efforts in the largely #Democratic city.
The lawsuit, filed by the DOJ, alleges that policies barring city resources from aiding in immigration enforcement ops or collecting info about individuals' #citizenship status violate federal #law.
"The masked agents pull up quickly. They jump out of unmarked vans or trucks. They wear blue jeans or battle fatigues. They approach Latino men, at times yelling and carrying assault rifles. When someone runs, they’re taken. When they don’t answer a question, they’re taken. When they can’t produce papers, they’re taken.
"Their families won’t know what happened to them. They’ll be shackled, whisked away to another state, forced to subsist for days on potato chips, apples, water, and the occasional cold sandwich. They’ll sleep on the floor with mylar blankets, without access to showers or even working bathrooms. These are not enemy combatants in a war zone, but people living and working in America’s second largest city."

Police have arrested a man for handing out face shields to protesters in LA (I’ve also seen reports that he may have been distributing masks)
Why is this a crime? Why is providing PPE to people who are being hit with chemical munitions and rubber bullets an offence?
This is bleak.
Once again this ties back to disability rights.
If more people would help normalize masks; they wouldn’t have such an easy time vilifying them
Ironically these protests are going to lead to more disability, at least in part because police are making it impossible for people to protect themselves.
