NATO was meant to contain an ideology and evil empire in order to prevent a nuclear ww3.
What is the current purpose of NATO? Communism is no more. Putin only holds sway over Russia and the Warsaw Pact is no more. There's still the danger of a nuclear exchange, of course.
Let's not pretend that NATO, the EU, and the US, couldn't have played their cards better to get better results.
