“The loss of science on #Twitter is a contemporary mass extinction event”, says Professor Edward #Holmes, who recently was awarded the prestigious Croonian Medal by the Royal Society. He has also deleted his Twitter account recently. “Twitter used to be THE place where you shared ideas, data, preprints and papers. Now it’s a post-Apocalyptic hell hole.” #scicomm

Every university should have a Masto server where all their researches get an account to do all of this. Maybe one day

@mori_au
As a rule, universities don't understand social media. They have a Xwitter account because everyone does (did), but they have no idea how to use it. Explaining them Mastodon is a lost battle.

@j_bertolotti @mori_au More and more #universities (especially European ones) join Mastodon with their own instance. I recently saw a list of universities/research #institutes but can't refind it. One of the most active is the @uniinnsbruck https://www.uibk.ac.at/en/newsroom/2024/mastodon-for-all-university-employees/ The Helmholtz Association is on @helmholtz The universities of the Netherlands: https://www.surf.nl/en/mastodon-pilot-for-research-and-education

And here a list of #academics (it's sign-in, so we have more than on the list): https://github.com/nathanlesage/academics-on-mastodon
