Pro-tip: Don’t want to be mentioned in the same breath as horrible people? Don’t fucking partner with them.

@JackTheCat No, it really doesn’t. What Mastodon gGmbH/mastodon.social does doesn’t change the fact that Mastodon is a federated self-hostable open source app whereas Bluesky is a centralised VC-funded Silicon Valley crypto bro money play cosplaying a decentralised network.

I just wish the dev team/those running the flagship instance understood what makes them different and embraced that instead of letting themselves be used to legitimise Big Tech that would love to see them fail.

what Mastodon GmbH / .social does also doesn't influence the many alternative, and often interoperable, activitypub-based networks. Fedi is still fine, and still infinitely more likely to not get enshittified.

@setto @JackTheCat @max Ah, you mean in the way that it will be built into every Small Web app built with Kitten by default? ;)

Aral Balkan
@setto @JackTheCat @max Oh no, that’d be wasted effort. Every Small Web place in the peer-to-peer Small Web will have it as a default feature going forward :)

sort of, yes! But similarly, i also want to be able to take that data and import it to smol web app even if i chose to build it puppy

very interesting, but i suppose all we have to do now is to convince every website boy out there to read and write the format...?
Personally, i am more attached to identity than i am to the data i create. Most datum i create with my digital identities, are ephemeral in nature. Unless they aren't but then the data is rarely confined to one environment. (platforms, devices). Frankly, i'm not sure if that's even possible with the assumptions of activitypub. 🤷‍♂️ A fork maybe... a migration that would painful 😅
That's the only thing i feel bluesky done slightly right: at least pretend to adhere to some sort of DID standard.
