That’s why he attaches himself to existing companies or in the case of Neuralink, Solar City, and Boring he takes experimental technology not suited for industry and pretends to be pushing the field forwards.
Our media environment and educational system is woefully inadequate to help people understand this. At least in the US.

His father also shares these values. The Musk we see today is who he really is and pieces of that have surfaced well before today. Yesterday Falcon 9 had its 450th flight and one of the busters was flying for the 18th time after just 9 days refurbishing. People talked about Falcon as they now talk about the Starship.
