“It’s not a revolution; it is a nightmare of twisted monopolistic privatisation and the idiotic inefficiency that comes alongside that.”

Written about SpaceX’s Starship but could have easily been written about capitalism in general.

"Over 50 years ago, NASA was able to get its Saturn V, a rocket nearly as large as Starship, to fly without ever having a failed launch over its 13-launch, six-year operational lifespan. This was a rocket designed with computers less powerful than a Casio watch, built with far less accurate techniques and materials, with check systems and procedures infinitely less sophisticated than anything today. Yet, engineers were able to ensure it never had a launch failure [...]"

Musk makes more sense when you learn he cares about the appearance of doing something important. That’s why he attaches himself to existing companies or in the case of Neuralink, Solar City, and Boring he takes experimental technology not suited for industry and pretends to be pushing the field forwards.

Our media environment and educational system is woefully inadequate to help people understand this. At least in the US.

@MidniteMikeWrites Musk makes sense when you understand settler colonialism, racism and bigorty, and fascism.

Yes that too. I’m aware of his maternal grandfather who was indited by Canada for being part of a fascist movement and then elected to move to SA. His father also shares these values. The Musk we see today is who he really is and pieces of that have surfaced well before today. Just more critically underreported engagement with Musk’s background.

Few tech remarks:
- Starship can land and take off (no need of lunar module)
- Starship is reusable
- The carrying volume of the Starship is huge
And few non-tech once:
- Starship is built with Tesla money, not with your tax money
- Starship is an order of magnitude cheeper (in today’s money)—
Yesterday Falcon 9 had its 450th flight and one of the busters was flying for the 18th time after just 9 days refurbishing. People talked about Falcon as they now talk about the Starship.
