I’ve been noticing this when trying to translate posts on Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza (like the one that’s quoted) in @MonaApp, which I believe uses Apple’s translation APIs. The translation is carried out and appears briefly and then is quickly replaced by this error message. Only ever experienced it while translating Israel/Gaza-related posts. Anyone else run into this? Coincidence, incompetence, or Apple censoring translations?

I tried in the IceCubes app. It translated the full post and then got the error as I scrolled.

I usually only use it on shorter posts though.

@alexcurtin Curious. I just tried with Ice Cubes (iOS) and had no issue with the translation (to English for me), including scrolling to the bottom. Did it twice just to confirm.

@mjturner hmm. Still hitting it after updating to 26.5 but my money is still on a sw glitch over the length. On-device mode didn’t seem to make a diff for me.

@alexcurtin @mjturner What phones are you two on? I’m on an iPhone 12 mini. Not sure if that’s a factor.

I’m using the newer Mona (v7.3.2) where it gives a choice of translation options. When I use “iOS view” I get the error you’re describing, but when using “Mona view” I get a full translation. I prefer the Mona View anyways because it puts the English version first, which saves me from scrolling through all the text I want translated.

apple is censoring.

They stoll believe their own bullshit narrative of "only good guys use apple products"

Worked fine in Ivory app.

I’m also a @MonaApp user and the quoted article does translate for me, without disappearing.

And my Mona is set to iOS translation, so that’s evidence against an evil apple conspiracy.

@bart Good to know.

(And there’s no conspiracy. Who needs conspiracies when their CEO hands Trump a golden trophy himself on live TV?)
