1,700 people were killed by the June heatwave in Belgium. Massive overload in hospital emergency rooms, 19,000 calls to the emergency number 112 in a day. Many brought to hospitals with heat stroke, body temperatures of 42°C.

Voorlopige eerste schatting laat verhoogde sterfte zien tijdens hittegolf in juni

Uit de eerste schatting van de sterftecijfers in de week van 22-28 juni komt naar voren dat er ongeveer 480 sterfgevallen meer zijn dan verwacht. De geschatte verhoogde sterfte betrof vooral personen van 80 jaar en ouder.
