@_ade Well not really. I at first thought it was doing simple word detection, picking out the name Mastodon, but clearly Pixelfed (on pixelfed.social) isn’t Mastodon in name nor function (it is the Fediverse “Instagram”) so he seems to have picked out a few services. I noticed my links, which are custom URL’s, to non-Mastodon services get past the filter, but not Pixelfed as I am on “the big one” for Pixelfed (the Pixelfed equivalent to mastodon.social).
That was what I was wondering, since it can’t be detecting instances by domain name or page title matching ‘mastodon’. So it must then be some manually picked blacklist. To be honest I’m completely in the dark about what Fediverse services are or can be outside of Mastodon, as I’ve not had any time to read up on it.
@_ade Yeah, as I’m doing an after-dinner-catch-up on things in general it seems to be a blacklist of prominent Fediverse servers for, so far limited to, Mastodon and Pixelfed. My Fediverse services are Akkoma (this one) and Friendica, neither of which are Mastodon themselves, but are compatible with Mastodon (and both have added features compared to Mastodon itself) and I don’t think Twitter/Elon has deemed them big/important enough to include them just yet in a blacklisting.
They all have different purposes and functionality. #Mastodon itself is just the most famous Fediverse service, and where most people land. Probably this is due to the fact that there is a company behind it, whereas the other services are run by collectives of individuals, with no pay or other incentives, other than the conviction they are doing a good thing. It is a shame they are not taking up more article/news space though, especially since Mastodon itself isn’t as good as some of the others when it comes to features.
The flipside of the features coin though is that some have added “opinionated” features of the underlying ActivityPub standard, which is cool for those users of that particular service, but it also fragments the overall Fediverse further. Having said that, Friendica for example is better than Mastodon at following, and being compatible with, other Fediverse services.

So my moc.d-x-b.com/ is running #Akkoma (akkoma.social/) and my friendica.hellquist.eu/ is running #Friendica (friendi.ca/), both hosted by me on my own servers. Then I also have a #Pixelfed account on pixelfed.social/i/web/profile/…
