Reminder for anyone running #Akkoma or #Pleroma: you can "steal" themes of instances you think look good. Just go "settings -> theme -> save" if you see something nice. You can then apply it as your theme, regardless of what your instance theme is. It is yours. To keep. To evolve if you wish.

Go bonkers.

I don't really mind decentralization at first, and till now I'm still don't really care about decentralization too much. What I really like on #Fediverse is the sheer freedom it has. Just want to use #fediverse without further ado, fine, here is joinmastodon, just choose big server without thinking too much then toots and boosts. Don't like your instance admin's policy, fine, migrate to other instance. Want absolute control on your data, fine, host your instance yourself. Don't like mastodon, fine, there are #akkoma, #pleroma, #calckey, #misskey, #microblogpub, #snac, #gotosocial, #hubzilla, #ktistec, etc.. #Fediverse is ripe for experimentations and thinkering, I like it. :)

Akkoma/Pleroma was an interesting experience. I felt freer than in Mastodon in terms of self-expression but the overall experience felt half-baked. That, and I didn't really vibe with anyone, not that there were that many to vibe with.

I'm very much happier on Calckey.

#akkoma

Anyway, I’m trialling a move to #Akkoma on the mycrowd.ca server, you can find me posting there for the next few days. Here’s my very early take so far.

Re-inventing the federated wheel because you don't know that wheels exist

Replying to all the random individuals that seem to think that I’m “endorsing” one of the Fediverse products over any other, and seem to be making a big deal over #akkoma vs #mastodon etc.

That’s not the case. I’m actually a horrible MIS person, and I would never want to maintain my own server. I’m a programmer for chrissake!

The same way you should fear me if I hold a soldering iron, you should be very very nervous if I were to do any server management.

So all credit (or blame) for the choice of Fediverse platform goes to @monsieuricon, who maintains kernel.org and just made it really easy for me to try this out.

… and on a similar note: not only am I not much of a MIS person, I’m also not much of a social networking person.

I foresee a lot of disappointment in the future of any followers of this account 🔮.

Well, but are we sure #Akkoma is compatible with itself?
https://mas.to/@osma/110031782433451542

The fediversity in action: Linus @torvalds joined Fedi via social.kernel.org yesterday. Four views of his intro post.

1. As it it shown my standard view of mas.to, my instance
2. As it is shown by @elk connected to mas.to
3. As it is shown by social.kernel.org, an Akkoma server
[3]4. Also as it shown by social.kernel.org, but in another address

[4][3] https://social.kernel.org/users/torvalds
[4] https://social.kernel.org/torvalds

Their site seems to be limited to Linux kernel devs. Still, would like to know their reasoning on how they chose #Akkoma - what was considered important and what was not.

@jcrabapple You need access to the #Akkoma admin front end which gives you a delete option. Endpoint is /pleroma/admin

[EDIT] I tried deleting from the front end and it stays deactivated, so the above solution doesn’t work. Might have to directly delete it from the database.

I wonder if there are going to be lingering federation issues with #Akkoma servers that I never followed anyone from but knew of my account?

So, lesson learned (thanks @MisterArix for finding this!)... When tootctl self-detruct is run, it works great... to remove from other #Mastodon servers.

#Akkoma and #GoToSocial servers? Not so much. At least on the Akkoma side things get deactivated, so if one (like me) brings an instance back up on the same domain, it's impossible to follow people on Akkoma instances again without them reactivating things.
my account, deactivated on an akkoma instance.

Is this not related to this backfilling bug report which was posted 6 years ago the first time, and still isn't solved?
https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/34#issuecomment-1338999322

Or this one, about missing posts
https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/14017

I would probably suggest looking at how #Pleroma and/or #Akkoma has solved these things, as they work there.

I migrated my following-only lists from mastodon.social and didn't know you could add anyone on #Akkoma. Thanks for the tip.

If he were to use #Akkoma instead he'd have the functionality to add people to lists whether he follows them or not already built-in, and also another bunch of massive feature improvements and functionality additions, all whilst still being completely compatible with the Fediverse in general and Mastodon in particular. 🙃

@Kat M. Moss I think size and growth don't matter. #MissKey is currently exploding, but from a huge influx of Japanese users.

Right now, the cool kids in town seem to be #Akkoma, #GoToSocial and good old #Friendica.

@m @martlund @Ercanbrack
Lol, should have seen your bio earlier:

"I use Akkoma, the user-friendly Fediverse service, which is completely compatible with Mastodon, Pleroma, Friendica etc, only soooo much better. All the features you ask/wish for in Mastodon already exist in Akkoma. https://akkoma.social"
