Your regular reminder that it's not because you're ignoring it that it's going away.

On the other hand, it's because you're ignoring it that it's affecting more and more people (remember the problem is not flu-like symptoms for a few days, the problem is brain damage and screwed-up immune system) and that it's mutating constantly.

this is a great article.. thank you for sharing. Completely beyond my understanding why governments are ignoring this giant problem…

@elduvelle The Number one reason is probably that a pandemic (or rather pandemic-conscious population) is incompatible with neoliberalism.
(this is exactly how the pandemic "ended" in Japan, the government is not good at pretending)

Sometimes, I'm afraid that there is something more nefarious at hand. The future will be grim, and the oligarchy may prefer to deal with a weakened populace rather than a healthy and angry one. I don't want to fall into conspiracy theory territory, but...

Hmm… having more sick and weakened people doesn’t really help keeping the healthcare costs in check. Having less people able to work doesn’t really help the economy or pension-building.. it just doesn’t make sense, unless they are weirdly misinformed and think that getting infected is “good for your immunity” ? But surely they have medical advisors talking to them? Is it just that “it’s too complicated” to ask everyone to mask and so they just… gave up? 🤔

I guess there are lots of parallels with #ClimateChange and the tension between doing what is right for the long-term view vs doing business as usual. It’s just really sad especially when for Covid the solution is simple, even just wearing masks might fix it.
