So I just tried opting into #BridgyFed (https://brid.gy/mastodon/@atomicpoet@atomicpoet.org).

I found it confusing. For one thing, it asks me for my Mastodon account. Though Akkoma uses Mastodon’s API, not all sites recognize this nor support it—I don’t know if BridgyFed would reject.

Secondly, it’s not clear how to opt in. I think I opted in but there was nothing to say “Congrats! People from #Bluesky can see you!”

Also, how do I receive #Bluesky posts? That’s not apparent to me.

If it helps I'm at least as confused. Hopefully the light of dawn will bring more clarity

If I understand correctly, the person whose account is being bridged has to opt in from their side - ex. you following the bridge's Mastodon account, and someone on Bluesky following the bridge's Bluesky account. That's not technically required, but that seems to be the way it's handling the opt-in.

So it might already be possible to follow Bluesky posts from here, for people who have opted in from that side.

I found the syntax at https://fed.brid.gy/docs#bluesky-get-started

After a few minutes, your Bluesky account will appear in the fediverse as @[handle]@bsky.brid.gy. For example, @snarfed.bsky.social on Bluesky is bridged into the fediverse as @snarfed.bsky.social@bsky.brid.gy.

and

Bridged fediverse accounts appear in Bluesky as @[user].[instance].ap.brid.gy. For example, @snarfed is bridged into Bluesky as @snarfed.indieweb.social.ap.brid.gy.

Next question is whether Bridgy Fed supports Akkoma or GoToSocial on the ActivityPub side. I know Brid.gy doesn't currently interact with GTS due to a mismatch in the way they handle oauth, but that shouldn't be a factor with Bridgy Fed.

Testing so far:

I’ve been able to opt-in my Mastodon, Bluesky, Akkomane and Takahe accounts to bridging. (Akkomane and Takahe both think the follow request still needs to be approved.)

Bluesky is able to see and follow all three of these Fediverse accounts. But so far it’s only picked up posts from Mastodon and Takahe, not Akkoma.

Mastodon and Takahe are able to follow Bluesky and interact with its posts.

Akkomane is able to see a bridged Bluesky profile and request to follow it, but from what I can tell the request hasn’t made it to Bluesky.

GoToSocial is in the same boat: it can see the profile and request to follow, but Bluesky doesn’t seem to have gotten the request. Also, GTS doesn’t seem to be able to find the opt-in profile.

@kelson

Just to confirm I have the same in Akkoma: it seems stuck on waiting for an approval of the request.

bridgy and bridgy fed are different services for different purposes. Here's bridgy fed.

https://fed.brid.gy/

And the docs on how to use it

https://fed.brid.gy/docs

Bridgy is for static websites that don't "federate" naturally. BridgyFed is BlueSky/Fediverse. Hope this helps.🙏

To enable and opt-in you follow this account: @bsky.brid.gy
That will start mirroring and federate your ActivityPub account over the ATProtocol and assign a DID.

Then the counterpart for BlueSky you follow:
https://bsky.app/profile/ap.brid.gy
And it will start mirroring your ATProtocol account as an ActivityPub account.

AT to AP seems more seamless since AP has more features. Truncating long posts for example looks ugly. The plan is to thread them eventually.

Akkoma seems to be a little bit broken for the time being, although the situation seems to be improving.

Basically: on the Fediverse side, you need to follow @bsky.brid.gy@bsky.brid.gy. Right now, the follow seems to be at least a little bit broken with Akkoma, stuck in the “Awaiting Approval” state. But, the profile still shows up on Bluesky’s side.

I’m building a Bluesky list of bridged accounts for testing purposes: https://bsky.app/profile/wedistribute.org/lists/3krwhq36tjs2r

Unfortunately, Bluesky users have to also opt into the bridge in order for you to see them. Unless we can get the Bluesky team and a bunch of accounts to opt into it, we might not be able to see many people on this side.
