Ah, so if I want to follow someone from Bluesky, they have to first follow the Bridgy Fed account to opt in, I see.

Oh well.
Interestingly, a switch to opt-out is being considered.

Bluesky and Mastodon users can now talk to each other with Bridgy Fed | TechCrunch
Bridgy Fed is one of the efforts aimed at connecting the fediverse with the web, Bluesky and, perhaps later, other networks like Nostr.Sarah Perez (TechCrunch)
Bridgy Fed is discussing a change to opt-out from Bluesky. This would be great on the Fediverse side, but raises moderation questions for Bluesky users. I accepted these risks the other direction, but by opting in. A recurring challenge with bridges is that content can be bridged more readily than safety controls.

BridgyFed is great, but not perfect. Replies across platforms are not consistent even when all should be fine and all users in the replies following the bot.
I still need to check my Bluesky account from time to time, because there are also people who follow my Mastodon account from Bluesky, but not the bot. So I won't be getting their replies at all.
Dear friends,
This is your regular reminder to bridge your account to Bluesky if you haven't done so already (and are not active there)

Hello Bluesky here from Mastodon 👋
I've been wanting bluesky to simplify the bridging of their accounts like threads does with federating. create a setting any user can turn on and make it visible to all that they are bridging their accounts. but then I realized mastodon could and should do that too. maybe they could "shake hands" publicly and both do that? #bridgyfed
