I read today that people are running to #bluesky . For the record I'm on everything except X.

I also read that Mastodon's user base has shrunk from around 2.5 million to around 1 million, while Blue sky is over 20 million.

Thoughts?

Is Blue sky just the latest shiny thing?

Shrunk? How and why, based on what? Fedidb only shows growth: fedidb.org

@rolle I don't know where The Guardian got their figures but it makes sense. I've spoken to many people who switched to Mastodon but couldn't get on with it.

"I've spoken to many people" still doesn't cut it though. Fediverse amounts are difficult to count reliably, similarly you can't say how many websites there are out in the wild. It still doesn't mean it's shrinking. Could be the contrary and evidence show it's growing, slowly and steadily.

@rolle regardless of the numbers it wasn't my question. Is Blue Sky going to become the de facto standard micro blogging site, or is this a short term fad?
in reply to John Howes

We will see, but I'm going to bet on the Fediverse, because W3C and the creator of the World Wide Web itself believes in it (Tim Berners-Lee uses Mastodon).
