"Compared to the most offensive uses of AI, the potential danger of Attie is laughable. But for Bluesky users, this anger isn't so much about Attie itself as it is about what it symbolizes: a surrender to the idea that AI;s encroachment into everything is inevitable."

IMO, Bluesky users probably ought to be angry about Attie itself. Graber has done a pretty good job of positioning this as a utility feature for enhancing your feed, but squint just a little and you can see that its functionality is built entirely around getting users to divulge their interests to a data harvesting machine. Prior social media networks had to work a lot of inference magic to get the sort of sentiment data that Attie just waits for users to provide. If we learned anything from Cambridge Analytica and related scandals, it's that there's more potential danger to that sort of data harvest than may be immediately obvious.
