It is weird how criticising Bluesky or the AT protocol can attract replies similar to those that appeared when criticising cryptocurrency in 2020-ish.

It's sometimes really toxic "you just don't understand" rants, sometimes pages long, making accusations of being out to get Bluesky and/or AT, even personal attacks and swearing.

With most protocol criticism you get quite dry straightforward level-headed technical responses or rebuttals, but when Bluesky/AT is criticised there is often a hyperdefensive and accusatory reaction. It's really odd and offputting.

Meh. Don't let them get to you. Some people are so worried that they'll make a bad decision about something that they'll double down and start insulting you as a way to protect their fragile egos.

Just remember, the more they protest with insults, the more their afraid that you are right.

It's not about you. It's about their own insecurities.

Just hope I don't do the same thing in discussions about the Fediverse! 😅

I guess this is a reminder to remain as straightforward and calm in discussions generally.

Yep. The moment we feel ourselves defending intellectual issues with our feelings, it's usually a sign we've already lost and need to think things over more.

Responses like those you’re describing are the same as those who are, or support, the MAGA regime. That’s why I blocked their sorry asses. To me, if you’re able to adopt that view as a frame of reference, it becomes clear that they have an agenda and should be treated as such

oh, but i AM out to get bluesky - because it's a bad company, run by bad people, and the protocol is bad too

p.s. To be clear, there is much calmer and more positive discussion around Blacksky, I'm not aiming this post at Blacksky fans at all. Blacksky discussion seems to be a lot more optimistic and secure.

@Mrfunkedude

Blacksky is an initative to build a totally independent non-corporate social network based on AT that doesn't depend on Bluesky's infrastructure. They had to go to a lot of trouble and resources to build it, as AT doesn't make it easy to do this.

AFAIK it's the only independent network based on AT, everything else is dependent on the Bluesky corporation infrastructure.

One thing AT Proto advocates studiously ignore are discussions about whether AT Proto is actually capable of being truly decentralized. @cwebber has raised the issue of quadratic scaling of the network as it goes wide (more instances). If this is true, and no one has refuted it, then it will be effectively impossible for the network to accommodate more large instances.

p.p.s. Someone just replied to my original post with "Get a fucking life, you god damn loser." and "Just imagine being such a fucking loser" and "You’re an insufferable nerd for fucking free" and "No one said Bluesky is decentralized" and "This is why no one can take you seriously" etc etc etc.

The funny thing is I wasn't even responding or replying to them, but they're acting like everything I say is written about them.

There are a lot of toxic, nasty, egocentric people who appear when you mention hashtags related to Bluesky and AT. I don't know why but it's horrible. It is like AT protocol discussion runs through a sewer.

A Fediverse Haiku:

It's unfortunate;
there's weak people of all stripes.
Go smash that "block button"

Bluesky people seem to be very on the defensive. I notice it a lot. Can it be, that they are beginning to suspect that they chose the wrong platform, but are ashamed to admit it?
