They may share a suffix (and a protocol), but Blacksky isn’t hitching its wagon to the Bluesky app or team. Founder and CEO @rudyfraser.com is creating a new, fiercely independent playbook for communities — one made possible because of the flexibility of the open web. We're excited for you to hear the latest episode of @mike's Dot Social podcast:

it's an okay article, I learned a few things. I think their hearts are still in the right direction, but it doesn't touch on the feasibility of standing up decentralized servers or what happens should the company just go away.

It feels written as if the assumption is still that it's a monolithic service --which it is, AFAIK-- and there was no real challenge to how the content or network could survive the loss of #Bluesky, Inc.

I'll be blunt here:

It's more @WIRED clickbait

Given the level of Issues Bluesky is working on over at Github, I wouldn't even bother to click through on that article

Interview: Wired | CEO Jay Graber | #Bluesky Is Plotting a Total Takeover of the Social Internet

wired.com/story/big-interview-…

"Graber sees Atmosphere as nothing less than the democratized future of the social internet, and she emphasizes to me that developers are actively building new projects with it."

"How do you plan to make money?
Subscriptions are coming soon... Other apps in the ecosystem are experimenting with sponsored posts... I think ads eventually, in some form, work their way in..."

Paywalled. But what a weird headline.

Not as bad as losing a visa, but on #Bluesky the blocklists are being abused hard by the far-right. Not too long ago I found out my casual art and gaming account had been added to a blocklist with hundreds of thousands of people called "Drama: people engaging in drama, usually angry politics."

The politics related posts on that couple of years old account can be counted with fingers of one hand, and there's zero arguing or debating with anybody. Seems those lists originally created to block Nazis are nowadays used by Nazis to make random people they don't like blocked. What's even funnier, my actual politics account with lots of angriness and frustration isn't on that list.🤷 Don't trust makers of those lists blindly.

In this episode of the DotSocial podcast, recorded at the #FediverseHouse at SXSW, Bluesky CTO @pfrazee.com strapped on his butterfly wings to explain to @mike how the company is rethinking the internet’s architecture to create a more flexible, user-centric web.

I'm on fedi & promote it cause it has the potential to fix the control over cultural attention by the wealthy and govts via mass media as documented by Chomsky. Based on what #bluesky did last week and still refuses to acknowledge, it's obvious they don't share my goals. They can't be allowed to be the future of social media, no matter how many times they claim to care about decentralization. And why has none of our tech press reported on this?

Bluesky restricts access to 72 accounts in Turkey amid government pressure and still this article claims #BlueSky is decentralized:

It isn't - this kind of #censorship could never happen on the #fediverse

Censored users just would move on to another server or start their own.
