British authorities have revoked the visa of Egyptian student Osama Ghanem, who studies at King’s College London, putting him at risk of deportation after participating in student protests supporting Palestinians on campus.
The university stated that the decision was due to administrative violations and breaches of campus policies, while Ghanem and his legal team insist that no criminal charges have been filed against him and that his actions were part of lawful political activity.
The UK Home Office has given Ghanem a deadline to leave the country, raising concerns about his deportation to Egypt, where he says he could face security risks. The case has sparked widespread debate over freedom of expression and the targeting of students involved in pro-Gaza protests.
The Israeli occupation intensified its economic pressure on Gaza during the war by imposing restrictive trade and financial controls that drained Gaza’s economy and worsened humanitarian suffering.
According to Arabi21, Israel has limited imports to just 10 approved merchants through opaque arrangements outside Palestinian oversight, effectively using Gaza’s commercial sector as a tool of collective punishment and helping fund part of the war at the expense of Gaza’s population.
These measures fueled a black market, created monopolies, and sharply driven up prices as high import fees and trade restrictions concentrated commerce in the hands of a few approved traders.
Palestinian legal advocacy group Al-Haq filed a criminal complaint in Switzerland against Israeli Economy Minister Nir Barkat while he was attending the World Economic Forum in Davos.
Al-Haq reported that Barkat is responsible for Israeli settlement policies, apartheid-related crimes in occupied Jerusalem during his time as mayor, and involvement in Israel’s genocide in Gaza.
Al-Haq says Swiss law allows prosecution of international crimes when suspects are present in the country and insists Davos should not offer impunity.
Former Swedish national team goalkeeper Hedvig Lindahl rejected an invitation from FIFA to join the “FIFA Legends” team ahead of the Women’s World Cup.
She said she refused to allow her image to be used to whitewash what FIFA calls the “Peace Award,” demanding justice for all Palestinian football players killed by Israel during two years of genocide.
