Spindrift

A line of house-sized seracs stand along the fold in the glacier where the ice drops to a lower level. The ice snout spreads out into a lovely fan shape.

The heights of Hálsatindur and the upper slopes of the glacier are windswept, and snow is billowing across the surfaces.

Mid-November: Fláajökull¹ ("Sloping Glacier") in Hornafjörður, south-eastern Iceland.

A colour photo of a winter landscape. The sky is clear but with some light cloud, and the low sunlight is from the left. The foreground is brown scrub and rocks scattered across a level surface. In the centre of the shot is an impressive glacier, sloping down in steps and covered in snow. Some heavy cracking has created huge crevasses along the lines where the angles change. At the summit are pinnacles of mountains which are mostly buried beneath the ice, snow-capped. Wind from the right is blowing clouds of snow across the surfaces, forming white clouds in the lee of the peaks and into the sunlit sides.
