The forest town of Butte Falls, Oregon. The cafe past the stop sign on the right has a walk up window. I walked up & ordered coffee. She said, "Fifty cents." As she disappeared to get the coffee I started digging dollar bills out of my wallet thinking I had misheard her. When she returned with the coffee, again she said, "Fifty cents." I gave her two dollars. She said she had raised coffee from $0.75 to a $1 but people complained so she lowered the price to $0.50.

I set off on my first 4-day hike at 7pm, when the family dropped me off at the trailhead of a route called Síldarmannagötur, around Lake Skorradalsvatn. Since sunset isn't until 11pm these days and it doesn't reeally get that dark in general, I wasn't concerned about starting a 15km trek at 7pm ☺️
After about 3 hours of walking I found camp in a spectacular place overlooking the Hvalfjörður, just north of Reykjavik.

It is astonishing to think that I can take a full shower with less water than it takes to flush a toilet.

I consume around 4-5L of water for the shower, and to flush it takes 6-8L. One pee, one flush, and you consume more water than it takes me to have a 20 minutes shower.

In Spain, where I am, people use 128L of water per day, per person. As much as I use in almost 3 weeks.
