Lets focus on the massive amount of lava from this eruption.

Compared with previous eruptions it’s mind blowing.🤯

This video from Gylfi shows how surrounded Grindavík is.

If it wasn’t for the barriers I’m not sure how much of the town that would still be there. 😟

They are building a new road on top of the lava. Again.

Yes, I know the video is in Icelandic but you might get the gist of it.
There are holes and it’s still very warm. 😅

There are still activity in the volcano but live cameras are not in a good position to spot the fountains so you only see the splash every now and then when it’s high and you look closely. 🌋

Grindavíkurvegur was also flooded yesterday for the third time(!) this year.

(I’m not sure who is behind this image. 🙈
But let me know and I’ll update the post!)

Vog

A portmanteau of "volcanic" and "smog", this eerie veil was created by gas from a #volcano.

The eruption releases steam, as well as carbon dioxide (CO₂), sulphur dioxide (SO₂), hydrogen sulphide (H₂S) and other gases.

In this shot, the gas has reached the sea by crossing Vatnajökull glacier, cooling it. The steam has condensed out, the sulphurous oxides have formed a high, blue haze and the heavier sulphides have formed a layer above the water surface.

Fissure is over a kilometer long and with fountains that are at least 50 meters high. 🌋

Several busses and cars are now leaving the area.
I’m guessing most of them are coming from the Blue Lagoon.

Grindavík is being evacuated. Need to keep an extra eye on the livestream now.

On May 18, 1980, Mount St. Helens experienced a major eruption, darkening the skies in Eastern Washington as ash drifted east in the wind pattern.

Here’s a look back at my grandparents experience from the Tri-Cities area:
