Ice Giant

A beautiful day, and we're visiting the mountains of #Iceland's south coast.

Looking at the western face of Vatnajökull and the volcano named Öræfajökull we can see the island's highest mountain and summit crater - Hvannadalshnúkur (2110m/6923ft) - the two stumps on the right side.

On the left is Hrútsfjall (1857m/6093ft) and Skaftafellsjökull is the glacier dropping to ground level.

Chill

Svalbarðseyri Lighthouse (Svalbarðseyrarviti) in North Iceland might not be one of the most majestic lighthouses in Iceland but it is certainly one of the cutest that I've been to.

Wearing A Woolly Hat

A dull and drizzly day in south-eastern #Iceland. Mist and clouds are hanging around the glaciers and, in some places, spoiling the view.

The dark sands of Steinasandur are cut by channels of run-off water. Rauðárbotn¹ (835m/2740ft) has wrapped itself in fluffy cloud, and is peeping over the top.

Sunset Snout

The turquoise calving face of Fjallsjökull, 10m/33ft of compressed snow that flowed slowly down the mountainside before finally joining its moraine lake.

3:30pm in late October, and the sun is slowly setting. Sunset itself will be at 4:45pm.

We had a Zodiac boat ride into the lagoon, and this was as close as our guide would take us.
