BBC World Service - lite

My pals in BBC World Service have been doing some awesome work on "lite" versions of their news articles (other page types to follow).
They essentially skip the Server-Side React hydration which means you end up with a simpler HTML+CSS page, no JS.
Page sizes drop significantly:
* Transferred: ~600KB -> 30KB
* Total: 1.65MB -> 135KB
Just append `.lite` on a URL e.g. https://www.bbc.com/mundo/articles/crgyyvdz1dro.lite
There's no on/off UX at the moment but they're working on that too.

On May 10, Ncuti Gatwa starts his first full season as the Doctor — the first Black and first openly queer man to take on the role. Entertainment Weekly talked to him about the responsibility he feels to get things right. “I was really cautious about getting it right throughout filming,” the Rwandan-Scottish actor explains. “It’s 60 years’ worth of legacy and 60 years’ worth of a show that people have loved and watched with their families. It lives in people’s hearts, so I really wanted to protect that.”

Reminds me of the #British #BBC factoids program #QI, where they once mentioned that ‘boy’ used to mean ‘servant’ and children of both sexes were called girls. The pic is from Indiatoday, a rather arbitrary secondary source…
