Mimela junii (Scarabaeidae, Coleoptera) is native to the Mediterranean area, but appears meanwhile also in Central Europe and Germany, where it can establish due to warmer climate conditions based on global warming. The species is reported to be introduced due to human transport to Central Europe and must therefore be named neozoon. I found this specimen in Berlin district Schöneberg in July 2025. I filmed behaviors of it and released the video on 29 March 2026. This photo is based on a video frame from this YouTube Video. Lichens indicate airquality and climateconditions. I found the #species below in #Jungfernheide #forest #Berlin. While #Parmelia #sulcata requires light, but is flexible, #Hypotrachyna #afrorevoluta needs warm, nitrogen-poor #environments and clean air. The latter is rareer in #Germany, but spreading eastward based on #globalwarming. D. Masson (2004) found it on #treetrunks and #branches.

Lichen Hypotrachyna afrorevoluta on a branch nearby lake Flughafenseen in forest Jungfernheide Berlin. The species prefers warmth, clean air and some slight acidity. It is sometimes named as putative sister species of the morphologically rather similar Hypotrachyna revoluta. They differ by their thallus surface texture (rough in H. afrorevoluta) and the thallus lobe endings lesser bulged downward in H. revoluta and stronger bulged downward in H. afrorevoluta. Soridia are more granular in the latter, its rhizinia are black and stiff and not brown, slim and wavy. H. afrorevoluta was described from specimens in Africa, since the ends of 1990s the species was also discovered in Europe, formerly mistaken with H. revoluta. It is seemingly in debate, whether it is really the same species as in tropical Eastern Africa (Kenya). © Stefan F. Wirth, Berlin, March 202

#Freshwater #lakes,like #Flughafensee #Berlin, play a complex #role in #globalwarming. Their #sediments are important #carbonsinks. However, they also release #CO2/#methane through microorganism activities. Furthermore, #lakeswarmup faster than surrounding air. L. Huang et al.(2024) address this and predict #shifts in #aquaticspecies #distributions and rearrangements of #freshwaterhabitats.

Berlin's Flughafensee (Airport Lake) lies in the middle of a forest (Jungfernheide Forest) and is partially protected by fences as a bird sanctuary. Therefore, an almost untouched shoreline vegetation thrives there, including marshy areas and reedbeds.
