Incredible aurora visible over Stockholm a few hours ago from Finn Boda in Nacka ~22:30. Easily visible with eyes, including red/purple coloration. Also saw a shooting star!

HOLY MOLY!!! 🤩🥰. As I was waiting patiently for the ‘Perseid Meteor Shower’ to appear over Courtmacsherry areas in West Cork, Ireland; this OUTSTANDING #Aurora #NorthernLights emerged underneath the plough constellation around 2am!!! 😳😍📸🌠🌌💥✨💚❤️ #auroraborealis #solarstorm #CME #Perseid #PerseidMeteorShower #Courtmacsherry #WestCork #Cork #PureCork #Ireland #sun #astronomy #astro #Astrophotography #space #spaceweather #photography #photo #art #nature #WildAtlanticWay #August

Meteor Borealis

A single exposure made with a camera pointed almost due north on August 12 recorded this bright Perseid meteor in the night sky west of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. The meteor's incandescent trace is fleeting. It appears to cross the stars of the Big Dipper, famous northern asterism and celestial kitchen utensil, while shimmering curtains of aurora borealis, also known as the northern lights, dance in the night.

First day in #Sweden on vacation, looking for the Perseid meteor shower - found the #aurora instead!

A late one last night. As the cloud tracked north it left behind another wonderful display of the Aurora. Here’s the cloud breaking giving an early sneak preview #Aurora #Aberdeenshire #Scotland

Photographing northern lights when it is happening right above your head and covering most of the sky in all directions isn’t too easy. Definitely impossible to make it justice. It’s waaaaay past my bedtime so no reviewing the photos today but here are a couple of the ones I took, just straight out of my camera roll. #auroraborealis #northernlights #itsback #norrsken #aurora #corona

Well, I guess a lot of us got up for the #Aurora display last night and into this morning, I managed to capture most of it on #timelapse #auroraborealis #nightsky #nightphotography #scottishSkies #PerthandKinross #Alyth #GlendaleAuroraApp Watch a timelapse video at the link below.

I opened my north-facing window, set up my mini tripod and #LeicaQ3 on the window ledge, and proceeded to snap away for around 2 hours. It was mainly just a wider covering of a red / magenta and green hue. At around 22.30 GMT, we had a bit of a burst which gave me a shot with the more defined streaks of the #aurora.

#SolarPeak really living up to it's name!

Busy photo! The two obvious features are the aurora & the lenticular clouds above the horizon. Near center above the clouds are two Perseid meteors. Moving right is the Milky Way bisecting the photo. The bright spot on the right above the clouds is Jupiter & above it is Mars. The Pleiades star cluster is above the planets. And the Andromeda galaxy is at top right. Oh, & the landscape, that's Tuolumne Meadows in Yosemite.

Was woken up this morning (12 Aug 2024) at 00.00 GMT (01.00 BST) by my phone buzzing. It was one of my #aurora apps saying the #NorthernLights would likely be visible across the UK.

I usually take it with a pinch of salt but I nevertheless I always look - just in case - to indulge the astrogeek in me.

My room has a north facing window so I stuck my phone out and managed to snap the very faint red and green hues of the #AuroraBorealis just east of #London.

Am absolutely looking forward to coming out of summer and into autumn and winter for the 2024-2025 winter #aurora season. Hopefully we'll see pretty impressive displays of the aurora being that we are experiencing the peak of solar cycle 25.

I shot this photo of the #NorthernLights over #FinnishLapland a couple of years ago.

"Bid me discourse, I will enchant thine ear,
Or, like a fairy, trip upon the green,
Or, like a nymph, with long dishevell'd hair,
Dance on the sands, and yet no footing seen"

I just made a photo of our closest star. We're nearing the maximum of the sun's 11yr solar cycle & right now the sun is really active! Sunspot 3780 (large spot lower center on the solar disk) is abnormally big. You could squeeze 3 Earths inside of it! There's a couple of pretty big solar storms headed our way. Should be good aurora displays Aug 12 from 03:00 - 06:00 UTC (8-11pm PDT) along the northern tier of the United States. @ambivalena
