As Andy Burnham continues to talk up a (relatively) new approach to social housing in England, perhaps now (as Phin Harper suggests) its time to look back 75 years at the Festival of Britain, but not to the South Bank, rather its radical experiment in community-focussed housing in Poplar.

#House speaker Mike Johnson transmitted the #bipartisan #housing #affordability bill to the WH Monday,…kicking off a 10-day countdown for the bill to become #law, even if #Trump doesn’t sign it.
Trump remains undecided over whether he’ll sign it, saying after Johnson sent it to him that it was “so unimportant” compared with his efforts to secure a batshit overhaul of federal #elections.
“Big deal,” Trump said of the legislation. “It’s a yawn.”
#Congress passed significant piece of #housing #legislation, in rare #bipartisan feat.
The bill’s passage, by a lopsided 358-to-32 vote, ended months of sparring between the #House & #Senate over a sprawling measure that aims to tackle the housing crisis by boosting supply in a country facing an acute shortage of new homes. The Senate passed its version of the same bill Monday, by a vote of 85 to 5.
Former #slumlord #Trump is expected to sign the bill into #law.
