There are so many accounts by the #news media on #Threads, that could but do not yet federate. Doesn't make much sense to ask here for them to do that, so I posted something over there.

If you have an account and want more of the media federating, feel free to share the post:

I'm collecting the ones I find here:

🤷‍♂️even if they do turn it on, in 30 days they'll turn it off again because Meta is asking them to....😬

When the platform is working against you, it's like being a 400 lb man trying to free climb. It just ain't gonna do much good.

@BeAware
As far as I've seen it, it's just another question. Most will ignore it, don't you think?

I for one, still miss so much of the media here and think, this is currently the most promising way, to get them here.

BeAware :veriweed: reshared this.

in reply to Martin Holland

in my experience, most are not ignoring it because they don't see any positive to turning it on. Meta isn't promoting the positives, only the negatives.

Last time I checked, people were turning it off in droves. Like every time I searched "Fediverse", there was at least a few dozen saying they were turning it off after getting the notification... 🤷‍♂️

Maybe you'll have better luck with news orgs that just want reach, but in my experience for the vast majority of normal users, they're just turning it off.

@BeAware
That's sad, obviously. On the other side, there is no real upside for most users yet, they don't "see" the Fediverse. Maybe it'll change, when there is a real connection.
in reply to Martin Holland

hopefully there WILL be a real connection eventually...

The way Meta is doing it, doesn't leave much hope unfortunately.

When confronted with their "only negative, no positive" approach, they basically said "Fedi is bad and we need to tell people Fedi is bad".

Down in this thread, you'll see the interaction with the Meta employee and the direct reason I'm no longer there advocating for Fedi.🤷‍♂️

It doesn't really seem like a good faith attempt at federating.

@BeAware
I read that differently 🙂
Back in december I wrote an Op-Ed about how Meta "found something" to cripple federation. I still think that in a way, but I also think their arguments for doing it this way are valid.
in reply to Martin Holland

I was enlightened to the reasons they are doing it from Flipboard CEO @mike, but I'm not sure how you can read that and, at the very least, agree it's very bad PR.

They're doing it because of data protection laws. That doesn't mean they should just promote negatives and not positives.

Maybe our brains are just wired differently, but I am hesitant to believe a single letter that comes from Meta, much less any words with no substance behind them.

They could have said "it's legal reasons" and that would have satisfied me. "Fedi bad" however, obviously does not....😬
