Does anyone know where Mastodon admins hang out online?
I'd like to get better at tuning and running my instance, but I'm reaching the limit of how far I can get pulling at web searches. I'm running into some "Why does that tool do that" questions that are hard to sort out.

Just fixed quickly an issue with videos being cropped too much in some corner-case situations (replies mostly) in Mastodon v4.4.0-alpha.4 and Mastodon Bird UI nightly versions.
Mastodon Bird UI 2.1.2rc12 (nightly) for nightly/alpha/mainline versions is now available.

Invece Brave, Librewolf, Waterfox e Vivaldi mantengono il link all'account mastodon ufficiale nei loro rispettivi siti.
L'anno scorso Mozilla aveva chiuso la propria istanza mastodon e ora questo.

"Mastodon" really needs to get cracking on full data portability, IMHO.
It's a shame this hasn't been pushed higher up on the list of things to do.
I think many people have invested quite a bit of time and effort into their posts and profiles, and moving all that data, or somehow managing a switch-over doesn't seem to be that simple, if at all possible.
A reminder, the Fediverse cost money.
Yes, it is free for YOU to use, but your local administrator pays for domain registration, web hosting, storage space, CDN, and of course, bandwidth.
The busier and more active your Fedi site, the most it cost.
If you are able, consider reaching out to your admin, and asking how you can help. Even small contributions add up and make a difference.

I'm seeing a lot of HTTP 499s in my logs π
This is especially when there is a bunch of traffic coming in to #snac2.
Seeing lots of CPU spikes with the snac process maxing out the CPU.
The VPS I am running this on is a 1 vCPU, 3GB RAM and 100GB SSD. I have run #Mastodon on this config before and it ran fine. Not sure what's going on.

Scratching the Itch to Switch.
I'm going to migrate from my #Mastodon instance (chow.fan) over to this #snac2 instance (suigow.com).

A couple of months ago I tried to migrate my #Mastodon account (this one) to my #snac instance (suigow.com) and it wouldn't work.
While testing tonight, I figured it out. Even though the bug is fixed, it looks like it might not be. Mastodon caches accounts and for some reason doesn't pick up the alias.
I did an update of the profile of the receiving account that caused it to update the profile on the Mastodon instance. That fixed it, the migration worked.

tl;dr: What's your recommendation for a good Apple-ecosystem Mastodon app?
#macOS and #iOS users - It's time for me to revisit my choice of Mastodon apps. The one I'm using is completely dropping the ball when it comes to working with the system spellcheck and text replacement stuff. I'm constantly editing posts after seeing errors that *should* have been highlighted as I type.
The one thing that Mona has that I didn't see in other apps was the ability to group like notifications, so I get one "these people liked your post" message as opposed to a bunch of individual ones. It seems like such a no-brainer that I assume the other apps have that, too, now?
I wonder how Proton is doing after they left Mastodon...
... oh.
