Nice!

"Mastodon is currently considered *the* alternative to Twitter. SURF [the IT cooperative of Dutch education and research] and Universities of the Netherlands are therefore jointly exploring how a Mastodon environment for education and research in the Netherlands can take shape."

Oh this is the same instance where the admin posted yesterday about how Israel "controls the West" and "has done so for 80 years" (ie all of its existence).

Is making allusions to Jewish lies, Jewish control of government and delegitimatizing a state's existence considered acceptable?

@serge social.edu.nl seems to be the one, indeed.
[Clarification: the current pilot instance; doesn't mean it will stay the only one]

On a first glance, I don't seem him listed as admin there; but his affiliation with SURF is obvious.
[Correction: He is listed as admin, I simply didn't see it]

Not statement I condone in the slightest & makes me, once again, cry out "why can't we just have nice things" :/

@serge Thanks for pointing that out, I appreciate it

For the record (and for other people reading this):
The part about "80 years" is the one I personally take issue with.
I don't necessarily see the other part about "enabling by the 'reasonable center' and the 'silent majority' in the West" as being an allusion to "Jewish control of the West"; while I also see Serge's point.

The thing with such people is that if they didn't go so far, I wouldn't have an issue.

There's nothing wrong with talking about the issues in the West Bank per se (though I'd ask why not discuss other human tragedies and only talk about Israel) but when one talks about Israel as an illegitimate state or makes allusions to antisemitic tropes, it's clear this absolutely doesn't belong on a site like this, and never from an admin.

The Israelian government is largely seen as racist colonialistic and genocidal. It is always, ALWAYS a good moment to be reminded of that. And if we allow public officers to wear turbans or a kippah, we certainly should allow a Mastodon admin to remind us of who is who.

@KoosPol You speak of "Israelian government", but then about allowing "public officers to wear turbans or a kippah" - which is already conflating Israel with Jews elsewhere.
Also, allow "to remind us of who is who" - wtf are you talking about?

1) weirdly conflating religion of unrelated people with the action of a state
2) not the act of reminding, but the focus of "80 years", i.e. the whole existence, is what I take issue with
