Mehiläishaukka kantaa mehiläiskennoa jaloissaan, toukat ovat ruokaa poikasille. – European honey buzzard carries the honeycomb on its legs, the larvae are food for the chicks.
Mehiläishaukka on luokiteltu erittäin uhanalaiseksi lajiksi Suomessa. Vähentymisen syynä ovat metsätalous ja vanhojen metsien väheneminen, kun linnut eivät löydä pesintäpaikkoja, sekä metsästys muuttomatkoilla ja talvehtimisalueilla eteläisessä Afrikassa.

The honey buzzard is classified as a critically endangered species in Finland. The decline is due to forestry and the loss of old-growth forests, as the birds can't find nesting sites, as well as hunting during migration and wintering areas in Southern Africa.
