Although declared extinct in the wild in 2019, not all hope is lost for the Spix's Macaw. This gorgeous bird once inhabited the drainage basin of the São Francisco River, in Brazil. It had a very restricted natural habitat due to its dependence on a particular tree species. The 2011 animated movie Rio actually portrayed the story of the supposed last pair of Spix's macaws. Thankfully, the species is now maintained through captive breeding programs, and efforts are being made to restore its natural habitat and reintroduce it to the wild. Mating for life, a pair typically also enjoys sharing food and mutual grooming.

The Long-tailed Tit is easily recognisable with its distinctive blush, black and white colouring. It also has a tail which is bigger than its body, and a bouncing flight. Sociable and noisy residents, Long-tailed Tits are most usually noticed in small, excitable flocks of about 20 birds. Like most tits, they rove the woods and hedgerows, but are also seen on heaths and commons with suitable bushes.

so i was trying to get a shot of this leucistic brown headed cowbird but the mourning dove had other ideas....

the cowbird has turned now and is looking at a mourning dove in flight as it approaches the bird bath with wings up and tail down
the mourning dove comes in for a landing on the bird bath and the cowbird is gone. the doves wings are spread upwards as it attempts to stop itself on the bird bath
the mourning dove looks triumphantly over its shoulder as it now has the bird bath to themself. they are puffed up and light brown with a pretty blue eye ring. a very pretty dove but not who i was trying to photograph at this moment!!
