An adult male eastern bluebird (left), wings spread, is flying up to where his fledgling is perched, a mealworm in his beak. This is the shepherd's hook that holds the mealworm feeder. We have put mealworms on top of the feeder, so the babies can land next to the food and feed themselves. However, this one has not figured it out yet; it still wants dad to do the work.
The fledgling (right) is assuming the position to be fed and dad is poised to push the mealworms in its gob.
After the fledgling (right) swallowed the mealworms, it assumed the feeding position again, letting dad know that it wanted more worms. Dad obliged... for now.

I took some young family members for their first river hike today. Along the way, we spotted this massive snapping turtle sunning itself on a log. We all stopped and stood in awe of its size. The entire hike was a lot of fun, filled with discovery, but I’m afraid that this hike set the “bar” quite high— the children might expect to see this turtle every time now! 😀🐢 #hiking #nature #wildlife

Sometimes the simple ideas are harder to achieve. I wanted blue sky as a background, so I had to get low. But when you're low, things that are standing upright aren't on your plane of focus. So I did a Mr. Fantastic impression, holding the camera with one hand and pulling the stem closer with my foot. Neither the plant nor I were hurt in the process. 🌱

Cinnamon Bear

I was sitting in my camp chair with my long lens hoping for some pretty birds to pose for photos when I caught movement up the small valley. Very excited when this bear ambled by as I'd only ever gotten brief glimpses while driving.

He wasn't very concerned about me, but did look over from time to time as he was foraging along the ground. I got lots of photos, but this was the most "artistic." Only later remembered I could have taken video. D'oh!

Cinnamon bear is a subspecies of the American black bear and not aggressive like grizzlies, or nearly as large.

Yesterday in Albania, private security police attacked protesters trying to defend a local nature reserve where Trump and Kushner are planning to build a luxury resort.

The area is a protected zone that is home to endangered species such as the Mediterranean monk seal, as well as 70 other threatened species and 200 bird species that have corridors in the area, such as pink flamingos.
