Peter Dutton, the Australian leader of the opposition, has made a new election ad, and it’s surprisingly honest and informative!

All this talk of elections reminds me we have in the house a book for kids about Australia's voting system.

Hey Toenz mate, R-ya wannin' bagin?
Maybe get Scottie (from marketing) back on board too? Reprise the #RoboDebt, worsen the #HousingCrisis and boost the coal, coal, coal?
With the Coalition facing a certain loss (according to latest aggregate polling), time for them to:
a) Copy everything Labor says
b) Roll out the super insane policies
c) Parade Howard's eyebrows
d) Collapse into a seething, infighting mess
Betting all of the above.

America is having a break with reality on tariffs. The world will move on to a new order
The Australian government after May 3 will no doubt want to try to negotiate with the Trump administration about our 10 per cent tariff, but they might be better off to just work around it and move on.Alan Kohler (ABC News)

While seeking refugee status you cannot be employed in Australia, but if you come in on a valid visa and apply for refugee status you can live in the community. This means Australian LGBTQI+ people need to get that spare bedroom ready!
If anyone has experience organising this sort of thing or would like to help, please reach out to me so we can keep our queer siblings safe.

Refugee status requires you to prove the following things:
1. A well founded fear of persecution. Considering that people are already being disappeared it might be sooner than later. Any documentation that you’ve been targeted for a disappearance or people in your community are being picked off will probably be enough, but keep documentation! A collection of threats sent to you will help make your case.
2. Membership of a particular social group. LGBTQI+ meets the threshold.
3. Persecution involves serious harm. Threat to your liberty, physical harm or forced detransition would meet the standard.
4. Real chance of persecution. This includes the likelihood of something happening in the immediate future.
5. You can’t have citizenship to another country where you could seek refuge.

Hey USA LGBTQI+ people,
In the event that you need to leave the country to seek asylum you might want to start planning now.
If you want to apply for refugee status in Australia you will need a few things.
1. A passport (and as much ID as you can bring)
2. A visa to get into the country - you can come as a tourist and apply for refugee status on arrival. A tourist visa costs AUD$20. The visa is automatic for USA and lasts 12 months.
3. A ticket to get to Australia.

So well put by George Monbiot. Applies to our tepid Labor government here in Australia too. People don’t want to be regarded only as economic units, and if you block leftist reform they reach for hard-right chaos.
"The democratic recession does not begin when a far-right party takes office. It begins when a centrist party crushes hope in democracy. When Keir Starmer’s government takes a chainsaw to people’s aspirations for a fairer, greener, kinder country, he cuts off not just faith in the Labour party but faith in politics itself. The almost inevitable result, as countries from the US to the Netherlands, Argentina to Austria, Italy to Sweden show, is to let the far right in."

How has fascism in Britain got this far? Neoliberalism has opened the door for it
We need a new politics of belonging, not Labour’s craven appeasement of capital, says Guardian columnist George MonbiotGeorge Monbiot (The Guardian)
