Greece now has so much solar that they're starting to offer cheaper electricity between 11:00 and 16:00

Due to the high efficiency and large number of photovoltaic systems in Greece, it is becoming more and more common for these alternative energy sources to have to be temporarily taken off the network during the day in order to keep the electricity supply stable and to avoid power failures.

Greece has a further 16 gigawatts of renewable capacity currently under construction.

Top of Hymettus mountain, East Athens, quite 1000m over the sea, an abandoned building and... yes, "so far, so good".

During the summer of 2021, wildfires raged across the Mediterranean. This poignant image, taken on 8 August 2021, immortalizes 81-year-old Panayiota Kritsiopi bathed in the orange glow of advancing flames as she flees her home on the Greek island of Evia. “At that moment I was shouting, not only for myself, but for the whole village,” Kritsiopi recounted later.

Our campsite in the middle of Rhodes...
When we found this place in 'Rodini Park', there was not a single person visiting this deep green park. So we thought we could go to bed early and spend a quiet night. However, we did not expect a group of teenagers who had come to play 'hide and seek'. As soon as they spotted us, they started throwing stones in our direction. So we got out of the tent to show them who we are and to talk to them. Finally, they understood that we are travelers who just want to spend a peaceful night here. After exchanging some famous football players and some curse words in different languages, they finally ran away.

Remains of a 6th/7th century basilica in Gortyn on the island of #Crete. Excavators dubbed it the "church of St. Titus" assuming by its size that it was dedicated to the island's patron saint, but the actual dedication is not known.

Church of "St. Titus" (Gortyn, Crete, Greece)

When this massive church was excavated early in the 20th century, archaeologists dubbed it the church of "St. Titus", assuming the large church was dedicated to the Crete's patron saint. However, the actual dedication of this church is unknown.
