✨ New Monday morning routine ✨
– run diagnostics on #YunoHost
– manual backup, save it 2 two external drives + #ProtonDrive
– tweak #GoToSocial settings
– check my VPS's dashboard for resource usage
Gotta say, it's pretty empowering to run your own #Fediverse instance.
Wishing everyone a good day!
P.S.: #NoAdvice needed, I'm aware of #BorgBackup but this setup is perfect for a total Linux n00b like me, plus my VPS already does regular backups 🤗
There's so much that can happen in just two months.
I published this blog post on October 28: blog.elenarossini.com/the-fedi…
Back then, I never imagined that by the end of the year I would be running my own self-hosted Fediverse instance.
I'm feeling so much more hopeful and empowered these days and I need to thank YOU, wonderful people of the Fediverse, for encouraging me to take the plunge and try #YunoHost and #GoToSocial. I'll be unveiling my new instance soon. For now, THANK YOU ❤️ ✨
The Fediverse has empowered me to take back control from Big Tech. Now I want to help others do the same.

@abeltramo follow-up question: my VPS provider has a super cheap plan for daily backups (like, 2 Euros a month).
Being a total newbie, it would be super easy to set up.
My VPS is only to test #GoToSocial and #YunoHost, doesn't have any critical information on it at all. If I lose all the data, that's not too big of a deal.
I am a big fan of the 3-2-1 backup system but in this case my VPS' daily backup will do I think. Thoughts?
Quick note: I'm running out to pick up my child from nursery school - I will be offline for the rest of the day (until she's asleep).
For Sharkey power users: I hope my post did it justice.
What is next? I really want to test drive Hubzilla, Misskey, Akkoma and PeerTube, learn how to create bots with @stefan and self-host my own instance via #yunohost 🤗
If you'd love to host your own services #mastodon #peertube #email #xmpp #nextcloud but don't necessarily have the technical skills, but you're willing to try.
You've got to check out #yunohost !!!
It's an amazing platform, that is made for non IT experts to install many #seflhost ed services with just a few clicks.
They even provide you with a free subdomain to get you started.
I urge you to checkout their new awesome website, you won't regret it!
