Just an idea for UK/EU digital legislation.
All non-FOSS, proprietary mobile apps must have a web alternative. This will allow people to use services without relying on Apple/Google services and telemetry via a phone web browser of their choice (rather than having to download the app).
Yes - there'll be plenty of cases where this can't happen, but I think it's a good starting point.

Ah, finally, they’re saying the quiet parts out loud:
“Sure, the social angle of working on open source is important and often a very motivating part of the project, but in the end that’s a side benefit, not the _point_ of the project.” – Linus Torvalds

Now do you understand what I mean when I say “free” as in “freedom” versus “open” as in “open for business?”

Personally I applaud any FOSS developer willing to ask for financial help to make their projects better. FOSS should be community development, not martyrdom.
It's not a lot, but I just set up an anonymous monthly payment through Liberapay to put my money where my mouth is.
Thank you for all your amazing work on Fedilab (which I use daily) and HoloSocial (which I hope to use soon). Thankyou too for having the courage to ask, so I remember to help how I've meant to for far too long. What I'm paying doesn't nearly cover the value you provide me, but hopefully this encourages others to chip in and help, too. ❤️
anpheq is also coming soon! Just gotta get the repos and the website sorted.
The latest anpheq includes 12dB/oct band solo, gain-matching for the output, refined A/B support, and the latest look-and-feel tweaks.
I may hold off here for a while. I COULD add other stuff to anpheq... but it's pretty much the master bus EQ that I've been looking for as it sits.
Pretty much feature complete on the initial glassmemphis design. Lots of UI polish. Full preset/soundware management. LFO section now includes retrigger/free, host sync, and shapes. The "ruin" macro now allows tuning LFO contributions to the effect.
Been working on sound design and voicing this. Loving the simple, modern, unapologetically-digital design. A favorite delay or other effects after it is pure butter.
Coming soon!

The open web is one of humanity's best ideas. Keeping it open is up to all of us.
Code for the People, a new documentary short from director Bao Nguyen, tells the human story of open source: the people who built the web, the walled gardens closing in on it, and what it takes to keep it free.

Have you ever tried to build Tails from source?
Tails is a funny sidequest that leads to a whole different set of problems. in line with the theme of this thread of "trusting nothing", have you ever tried to build Tails from source? just to see how it works, and what happens.
you should try it.
hint: the Tails build process is actually broken. nobody has been able to build it for years. when you go through it, you discover it is a hideous patchwork of very insecure programming languages, tools, 3rd party modules. i tried to build Tails and failed. after i saw all the Ruby dependencies it uses, i was horrified because there is no way to keep all of that infrastructure secure from the NSA. Tails is a giant psyop. it's all backdoored. we don't actually know who is building Tails and releasing the binaries. we just have to Trust in Trust that they are not compromised.

Today, youtuber dzuma made a video about my age verification bypass browser extension.
And since then, I've got a nonstop influx of people downloading the add-on, and it became the mosr starred one on my GitHub in just a matter of hours!
So, thanks a lot!! Glad I'm not the only one who's annoyed by this!

Codex CLI, the free local AI-agent developed by OpenAI, quietly ruined your SSD!
Rui Fan (Apache Software Foundation) discovered that the software has been writing up to 640 terabytes of logs per year, which is way more than a typical SSD lifetime endurance. This may cause user account issues, data loss and hardware damage.

Codex SQLite feedback logs can write ~640 TB/year and rapidly consume SSD endurance
Update at Jun 23, 2026: the following 3 PRs are merged, it could avoid 85% logs(feedback from my codex), so let me close this issue. Thanks @jif-oai for the fix. #29432 (released in 0.142.0) #29457...1996fanrui (GitHub)

I ironed out most of the issues for the next #libredj release v0.9.
This release will bring two really big things to libredj:
- crackle free audio engine (especially with play/cue/seek/beat jump)
- and a very tight jogwheel experience and sound
The crackle free audio engine is achieved by:
- use of envelopes to have ramps independent of the current buffer/slice size (dont forget libredj is sample accurate). Before we did the ramping only over the current slice, if the buffer size was small or the slice was too short this could cause crackles
- offset the ramps properly by the current resampler output latency
- Seeking/beatjump is not using a smooth step function for the crossfade ratio and also independent of the buffer/slice size. The crossfade is always 0.005 seconds long. Same for all ramping.

I got triggered by recent discussions about #FOSS and #LLMs. They tie into much more broad concerns I have about the communities, and so I finally caved and wrote... well, not a manifesto.

Not A Manifesto
Manifestos reduce complex circumstances to generalized and unspecific statements. And then they also invite endless debate about wording in order to be sufficiently unspecific that everyone can roll their own interpretation.Mad Ramblings of a Cyber Arcanist
