I'm looking at towns for a long stay in France next year and it's a strange feeling to be amazed at what's normal in France (and Europe in general) because I've forgotten about it after 10 years abroad.

Looking at this neighborhood (yes neighborhood, not the town), same population as the town where I live.
They have listed:
16 convenience stores
14 bakeries (well, it's France)
10 clothing/shoe stores
8 butchers
6 supermarkets
4 hardware stores
2 fishmongers
2 bookshops
and many more (sports, flower, pet stores, gas stations etc.).

I do not have A TENTH of that where I live because of this stupid zoning law that makes it illegal to have businesses where people actually live.
I've to drive everywhere because there's nothing within walking distance and people not only think it's normal but actually good (?!).
I love the US but this is fucked up!
